Bluebird follows Noah as they leave London and embark on a day-long walk along the Thames Estuary. As they reminisce about the changing environment and their inner journey of transformation, an encounter with a dancer marks a shift in their self-awareness.

The Voiceover-driven film is based on the notes and research of Nic Farr, who is completing a PhD researching queer and trans perspectives and practices in performance design at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. “Bluebird, beyond communicating my research to a wider audience outside of academic settings, captures some of the moods or feelings that underscore my research in a way that goes beyond words,” Farr says.

Lev Lesser plays Noah, starring alongside dancer Daze Hingorani. DOP Samira Oberberg shot the film anamorphic at 3.53:1, which Maya Yoncali left uncropped to show the extent of the landscape.

The film has been nominated for the Iris Prize following its earlier selection at Aesthetica. You can watch the trailer below.
