EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Stills from ‘Because I Love You’, a queer sci-fi film by Alanna Willis and Claudia Kurucz
15 May 2026 | By Molly LipsonBecause I Love You follows Nova who, after 10 years stranded alone on a spaceship, falls in love with an alien who comes on board her ship. As they explore the universe together, they dance, play and form a deep bond that remains unbroken across time and space.
Co-directors Alanna Willis and Claudia Kurucz wanted to make a film that re-imagined the sci-fi genre while celebrating the expansiveness of queer love and the possibility of connection without fear or judgement. Theirs is the first film crew to shoot at the Bridge Command Spaceship, which is usually used as an immersive spaceship experience for the public.
“When we were offered the opportunity to film at an immersive spaceship in London, we wondered how we could combine this futuristic, high-tech setting with our own interests: girlhood, coming-of-age, and love,” they say. The result is a colourful, fun and deeply moving short that, despite its extraterrestrial element, is grounded in human connection.
Because I Love You will begin its festival run in the coming months. You can see exclusive first look stills here.
