27 October 2026 | By Molly LipsonSky to Soil, the latest short by self-taught filmmaker Chasen Nuttall, explores what a ‘normal’ amount of sexual intimacy looks like in a relationship through the eyes of one couple on their one-year anniversary. Beautifully shot on 16mm film, this visuals-led short reflects on what can often be considered a taboo or embarrassing subject with tenderness and care.
Speaking with Kodak Nuttall said: “I take an image-first approach to storytelling, allowing mood, composition, and movement to guide the emotional core of a scene before dialogue fills in the gaps. In Sky to Soil, we leaned on body language, atmosphere, and visual subtext to communicate the weight of unspoken words. Celluloid’s organic texture brings intimacy and imperfection that mirrors the raw emotions at the heart of the film.”
Nuttall wrote, directed, and edited Sky to Soil, which premiered at the Academy Award-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival (Flickers).
We have an exclusive first look clip from the film which you can watch below.
