Transforming Film, founded in 2019 by Nim Ralph and Cat Marshall, is a consultancy and training business aiming to provide safety and inclusion for trans people in the screen industries. They’ve now expanded their efforts with the release of their free online toolkit Supporting Trans Professionals in the Screen Industries.

The toolkit is aimed at screen industry professionals looking to be more inclusive towards trans people in their teams and stories.

Their primary goal is “to make the lives of trans people in the industry better. We hope we’ve created something that they will be able to use and share with employers when navigating workplace support as trans people in the industry. We also hope we’ve created an approachable and practical resource for allies – and those who wish to be.”

The toolkit provides resources and guidance for every aspect of production, from creative development (such as common story tropes to avoid) and best safety practices during pre-production and production (such as travel guidance), to training for post-production and marketing.

The kit was illustrated by by Tamara-Jade Kaz, copy-edited by Lukas Berredo and reviewed by Max Disgrace, Morgan M Page, Helios Blanc and Amy Coop.

You can find the toolkit here.
