Poster reveal for ‘Bump’ by Sadhbh Malin and Pippa Molony, executive produced by Alison Oliver
7 July 2026 | By Molly LipsonThe poster for Bump, written by Sadhbh Malin and directed by Pippa Molony, is out now.
Bump follows Clo, a young pregnant mother late in her first trimester, expecting her first child. In their safe haven of excited, heightened hormones, Clo and her partner Tadg are wrapped up in their world together. However, Clo's sense of safety begins to fray when an overheard debate on the radio about the ethics of having children in the face of climate change rots her world from the inside.
Under a new spell of hormones and oxytocin, Clo's feelings toward her unborn baby take on a whole new meaning. Increasingly fixated on her personal responsibility to the planet, she loses her sense of self, safety, and reality.
“Bump came from a really real concern that some of my peers and I were, and are facing,” Says the film’s writer Sadhbh Malin. “I wanted to explore the question of responsibility, and why the individual feels it is in their hands. I was interested in a character who internalises the catastrophic fear, and the extremities of that - what that could do to a person.”
“Climate anxiety has shifted from an abstract fear to something very real, something that is here, something many people are living with every day. We are too often encouraged to carry the weight of that responsibility as individuals, while the systems with the greatest power to create meaningful change remain largely unchallenged,” says the film’s director Pippa Malony.
“There is also a deeply gendered aspect to this conversation. Questions around motherhood, bodily autonomy and what women should or shouldn't want have become increasingly politicised. Bump was never intended to be a comfortable watch. Clo's pain and distress is palpable. As the director, I wanted audiences to experience the intensity of Clo’s anxiety, to understand her and empathise with her from an emotional level.”
The film is having its world premiere at the Oscar-qualifying Galway Film Fleadh this week. You can watch the trailer here.
